Second Half Surge Pushes Foresters Past Cougars

LAKE FOREST, ILL. -- For their second consecutive road game this week, the Concordia University Chicago (CUC) Cougars took on the Lake Forest College (LFC) Foresters, battling back and forth, but ultimately falling 2-0 in the late stretch.

Inside the Box
First Half
  • The Foresters waisted no time getting to work on the offensive end, putting a shot wide within the first minute of play. They would continue to put pressure on the CUC defense, with a quick corner kick followed by five shots before the Cougars would be able to retain offensive possession.
  • Wagner would pick up her first save of the day in the 14th minute to hold LFC steady.
  • CUC would see their first offensive glimmer with a corner kick, but would be unable to convert. CUC would be able to use that offensive glimmer to jump start their offense and see two promising opportunities from Cazares and Flores within a five-minute span.
  • A stretch of substitutions late in the half would give the Cougars some fresh legs to lock down for the remainder of the half with Lake Forest only getting one more shot off in the final four minutes, but Wagner would make the save to close the half scoreless.

Second Half
  • Fresh out of the half, Lake Forest would get to work again and force a save from Wagner within the first two minutes. The Foresters would pick up a quick corner kick and ultimately put the first goal on the board.
  • Following the LFC goal, the Cougars struggled to find offensive possession and would settle into lockdown defense. Five consecutive shots from Lake Forest would keep the CUC defense on high alert and would force a stretch of subs early in the half. Lake Forest would take advantage of the fresh defense and secure their second goal of the day in the 69th minute.
  • The Cougar offense would sit quiet for the majority of the half before back-to-back shots from Erika Flores (Oxnard, Calif.) would put some pressure on the LFC defense, but would be unable to find the back of the net and close the match trailing 2-0.
