CUC Dominates Rockford in 3-0 NACC Opener

ROCKFORD, Ill. - The Concordia University Chicago men's volleyball team made their way to Rockford, Ill. to battle against the Regents of Rockford University in the first Northern Athletic Collegiate Conference (NACC) match of the season. After a strong performance, the Cougars swept the Regents, 3-0.
 
Inside the Box Score:
  • Tyler Holubek (New Lenox, Ill.) led the night's match with 12.5 points, 10 kills, an assist, an ace, a block, six digs, and 17 total attacks.
  • Tyrise Armstrong (Grayslake, Ill.) ended the night's match with eight points, six kills, an ace, a block, nine digs and 17 total attacks.
  • Alexander Ford (Skokie, Ill.) concluded the night's match with eight points, five kills, an ace, two blocks, two digs and 11 total attacks.
 
Here's What Happened
Set One
The Cougars grabbed on to the first point of the set after an error from the Regents. Elijah Mosher (Clayton, Ohio) locked in the second point with a block. The Cougars led by six, an ace from Michael Cardines (Chicago, Ill.) and kills from Holubek, making the leaders clear. The Regents began making a comeback before an attack from Leon Gudzovski (Des Plaines, Ill.) stopped things in their tracks. The Cougars built their lead to nine points; Mosher delivered a kill, along with Armstrong with an ace, gifting the Regents with a 12-point deficit. The Regents went on a 4-0 run before Jackson Stella (Hoffman Estates, Ill.) earned the ball back with a kill. Constant mistakes from the Regents and a kill from Holubek brought the Cougars to set point. The Cougars took the first set with a score of 25-11, going into the second set, 1-0.
 
 
Set Two
The Regents got in the first point of the set with a kill. Regent errors and a kill from Stella had put the Cougars in the lead once more. After some aces and a kill, the Regents snatched the lead. The teams exchanged kills, the Regents leading by three. The Cougars continued to push forward with kills from Holubek and Ford. Attacks from Gudzovski and Stella, along with an ace from Ford had put the Cougars within three. The Regents capitalized on any Cougar errors, leaving them at a five-point disadvantage. Attacks from Holubek and Armstrong helped the Cougars get some points. The Cougars came within one as the Regents approached set point. Kills from Stella and Holubek stole the set from the Regents; the Cougars took the second set with a score of 26-24, traveling into the third set up, 2-0.
 
 
Set Three
The Regents took on the first point of the set, followed up by a kill from Ford. An attack from Holubek and an error from the Regents gave the Cougars the lead early on. Both teams made errors, but the Cougars continued to lead by five. Stella and Ford proceeded to deliver more kills against the Regents, pushing the Cougars to a seven-point advantage. Kills from Gudzovski and Armstrong helped the Cougars bring their lead to 10 points. A kill from Ford had gotten the Cougars to match point. A kill from Gudzovski sealed the deal - the Cougars took the third and final set with a score of 25-14, sweeping the Regents at 3-0.
 
 
What's Next
