Home Game Stretch Ends for Cougars with Loss to Dubuque

River Forest, Ill. - The Concordia University Chicago (CUC) Cougars women's soccer team finished off their four home game stretch with a matchup against the University of Dubuque Spartans, where they fell 4-0.

Inside the Box:

  • Julia Urbanczyk (New Lenox, Ill. ) tried to get the Cougar offense going by leading the team with two shots, both of which were on goal.
  • Three Cougars defended the net with Naomi Gonzales (Santa Rosa, Calif.) making the start and grabbing 11 saves, Brooke Sheriff (Simi Valley, Calif. ) taking over at halftime, and Katelyn Wagner (Lagrange, Ky.) stepping in to finish off the game.

Here's What Happened

  • The Cougars were set for kickoff but the Spartans quickly took charge where they had their first shot on goal within 60-seconds of the game beginning. The Spartans would continue to charge on as they took two more shots on goal and their first corner kick within eight minutes of game play.
  • The Spartans would continue this pattern until the 28th minute where their first goal of the day would occur from a corner kick. The team capitalized on this momentum and snuck in their second goal just four minutes later taking a 2-0 lead over the Cougars.
  • Struggling offensively, the Cougars tried to strike first in the second half with a shot on goal by Urbanczyk, but the Spartans quickly regained possession and scored their third goal of the game.
  • A collection of substitutions were made for the Cougars attempting to put fresh legs on the field, but the Spartan offense would not back down, and the team went on to score their fourth and final game of the evening.
  • Within the final 10 minutes of play, the Cougars attempted to chip away at the deficit where they took five shots  by Urbanczyk, Angeline Barreno (Chicago, Ill.), Mia Hirayama (Mililani, Hawaii), Grace Chavez (Morgan Hill, Calif.), and Erika Flores (Oxnard, Calif.), as well as four corner kicks, but with nothing to come from these opportunities, the Cougars fell 4-0.
