RIVER FOREST, Ill. – The Concordia University Chicago (CUC) men's soccer team rounded out its opening stretch of home games this afternoon, welcoming University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point (UWSP) to River Forest. The Cougars gave it their all but fell 4-1 to the Points. CUC is now 1-3-1 on the season.
Inside the Box
First Half
- Caleb Kale (Moline, Ill.) opened the game with back-to-back shots but couldn't find the net.
- Gudiel was forced to make his first save of the game in the fifth minute, diving down onto the low shot.
- The Pointers continued to put pressure on the Cougars and were the first to score in the 27th minute off a deep throw-in into the box.
- The Cougars responded almost immediately in the 30th minute. Isaac Hernandez (Crystal Lake, Ill.) took the ball up into the offensive zone and then dished it off to Senese, who blasted the ball into the back of the net.
- The level playing field was short lived as the Pointers scored off a corner kick in the 34th minute.
- Ocampo forced a save from UWSP's goalkeeper in the final five minutes, but the Cougars remained one goal down at halftime.
Second Half
- It took almost no time for the Pointers to double their lead, scoring in the 47th minute to go up 3-1.
- The Cougars' opportunities were limited in the second half as Delgado had the only true chance in the 66th minute. However, his shot was saved by the Pointers' goalkeeper.
- Defensively, Schultz came up with some big saves as well as a couple big plays, including denying a UWSP forward a one-on-one breakaway chance.
- The Pointers added one more to their tally in the 86th minute to take the 4-1 victory.
