Shelton and Sammour Earn CSC Academic All-District

RIVER FOREST, ILL. -- Two members of the Concordia University Chicago women's track and field team have earned a spot on the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team. Eve Shelton (St. Louis, Mo.) and Noor Sammour (Berwyn, Ill.) each received the honors due to their success on the track and in the classroom this season. To make the CSC Academic All-District Team student-athletes must have a 3.5 GPA or above in order to be nominated.

Shelton had a tremendous senior season with the Cougars, highlighted by a broken school record and Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) record in the 60m hurdles at the NACC Indoor Championships  on March 1st. Shelton earned four All-Conference accolades this season across both indoor and outdoor from her performances in the 4x100 relay, 4x400m relay, 100m, and the 60m hurdles. She set a PR early in the season in the 55m hurdles with a time of 8.59 before going on to tackle the outdoor season with another PR in the 200m with a time of 26.46. She picked up numerous first place finishes throughout the season, including both the gold medal in hurdling events at both the NACC Indoor and Outdoor Championships. Shelton finished the season regionally ranked 12th in the indoor 60m hurdles as well as 27th in the indoor 4x400m relay, 13th in the outdoor 100m hurdles, and 28th in the outdoor 4x100m relay. As an exercise science major, Shelton finished her career at CUC with a 3.50 GPA.

Sammour also had a standout season in jumps after breaking a 25-year old school record in the high jump with a mark of 1.53m on February 1st. Sammour saw numerous top three finishes in various events throughout the duration of the indoor season including a season-best in the triple jump with a mark of 9.82. During the outdoor season, Sammour secured first place in the high jump at the Cougar Invitational while going on tot finish second in the triple jump at the same meet on April 12th. In the running events, she went on to set a PR in the 200m with a time of 30.88 before increasing her season-best in the triple jump at the NACC Outdoor Championships with a mark of 9.98m. Sammour finished the season regionally ranked 37th in the indoor high jump as well as 50th in the indoor triple jump, 44th in the outdoor high jump, and 44th in the outdoor triple jump. As an elementary education major, Sammour has accumulated a 3.69 GPA thus far.
