River Forest, Ill. - The Concordia University Chicago (CUC) Cougars softball team hosted their home double-header against Division Street rivals, the Dominican Stars. In game one, the Cougars had a walk-off single to take the win in the final inning, 5-4. Game two went to extra innings but Campos had another walk-off allowing the Cougars to sweep the Stars with a final score of 13-12. The team also celebrated their three seniors, Kallie Tierney (Corona, Calif.), Jessica Geng (Phoenix, Ariz), and Ashley Shroll (Tampa, Fla.) for all of their time and dedication to the team over their four years at Concordia.
Game One
Inside the Box Score:
- Alyssa Campos (Eastvale, Calif.) went a perfect three for three in game one, adding three RBIs, one of which was a walk-off single, solidifying a game one win.
- McKyler Morris (Belvidere, Ill.) and Shroll both went two for three and Morris had one RBI.
- Morgan Houfek (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.) picked up the win on the mound, her second of the season.
Here's What Happened:
- After one full inning, each team had one hit respectively, but both runners were left stranded.
- The Stars put up their first run of the day at the top of the second, but the Cougars wasted no time responding at the bottom half of the inning.
- Arissa Santos (Moreno Valley, Calif.) was walked and then advanced to second after a sacrifice bunt from Campos. With a runner in scoring position, a single by Linley Southern (Decatur, Ill.) brought Santos home. Heading into the third inning, the score was all tied up at one apiece.
- In both the third and fourth innings the Stars scored a run allowing them to increase their lead to 3-1.
- Morris and Santos both singled and Campos had a deep double to center field allowing Morris to get home. With this being the lone run of the inning for the Cougars, they still trailed 3-2.
- Another run was added to the Stars lead in the top of the fifth making the score 4-2.
- The Cougars did not put up any runs in the bottom half of the fifth, but their defense prevailed in both the sixth and seventh innings stopping the Stars from scoring any more runs.
- At the bottom of the sixth, Morris singled and advanced to second after a sacrifice bunt. Campos singled through the left side and brought home Morris once again. Cougars now only trailed by one 4-3.
- With the Cougars trailing by just one and entering their final half of the game, the team knew they would need to score at least.
- Shroll had a lead off single and advanced to second after a sacrifice fly from Emily Garcia (Eastvale, Calif.). Mayah Larenas (Chino, Calif.) forced a Stars error, placing herself on first. After Geng walked, all runners advanced, loading the bases. Morris was also walked, bringing Shroll home to tie the game at four each. Campos had a deep single to left field and with that Julia Pataluna (Commerce City, Colo.) who pinch ran for Larenas made it home. A walk-off single put the Cougars on top 5-4, a huge win for the team.

Game Two
Inside the Box Score:
- Campos went two for six, where her final hit of the day was in the tenth inning with another walk-off single.
- Morris had herself a fantastic day where she went four for five in game two, with seven RBIs, and two back-to-back home runs led the Cougar offense.
- Houfek picked another win on the mound in game two, her third of the season.
Here's What Happened
- In the bottom of the first, Garcia was hit by a pitch on the first thrown, then advanced to second after a sacrifice bunt from Katelyn Smith (Chatsworth, Ga.). With a runner in scoring position, Morris singled to left field and Garcia made it home. Cougars brought their energy into game two and the Cougars struck first, 1-0.
- Neither team scored in the second inning, but the Stars put their first runs on the board in the top of the third, taking the lead 2-1.
- The Cougars matched the Stars two runs at the bottom of the inning where Garcia was walked and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Geng had a fly out to center field allowing Garcia to advance to third. Morris homered to center field bringing in two runs and the Cougars regained the lead, 3-2.
- Back up to bat after holding the Stars at the top of the fourth, the Cougars had an electric bottom half of the inning. Southern singled to shortstop and advanced to second after Tierney was walked. Garcia then singled to left field, advancing all runners and loading the bases. Smith then matched Garcia's single with one of her own, loading the bases for Geng.
- A fielder's choice got Garcia out at third, but that advanced all other runners and Tierney got home to increase the Cougar lead 5-2.
- Morris then hit another home run in back-to-back at bats, bringing home Geng and Smith with her. The Cougars now led 8-2.
- We saw another scoreless inning in the fifth, but the Stars had an electric top of the sixth, where they scored seven runs, stealing the lead with the score at 9-8.
- In the bottom of the fifth, Morris and Geng each singled bringing in two runs, to regain the lead 10-9.
- At the top of the seventh, the Stars obtained a single run to tie up the game at 10 a piece. The Cougars were unable to bring in a run in the bottom of the seventh for back-to-back walk offs, so the two teams would go to extra innings.
- It wasn't until the top of the 10th inning that either team would score. The Stars put up a tough two runs. They broke the tie and took the lead 12-10.
- At the bottom of the tenth, Garcia and Smith singled as well as Geng who brought home Garcia to make the Cougars one run away from tying. Campos did it again, a deep single to right field brought home both Smith and Geng. The Cougars swept the Stars for the first time since 2015 in 10 innings with a final score of 13-12.
