CUC STUNT Splits For Regular Season Finale

NOTRE DAME, IND.  – After nearly an entire month off from competition, the Concordia University Chicago STUNT team played two final games before waiting to see if they would clinch a spot in the 2025 STUNT Nationals. The Cougars split the day, picking up the 7-0 win over The University of Olivet and fall to Saint Mary's 10-2.

GAME ONE: 7-0 W vs The University of Olivet

  • To kick things off, The University of Olivet started with possession where they chose routine two. With only the Cougars competing in the routine, they were unable to perform under the allotted deductions which resulted no points being awarded. The Cougars then selected routine one, where they would pick up their first point of the day and take the early 1-0 lead and close the first quarter with the lead.
  • To start the second quarter, the Comets selected routine three which both teams forfeited and handed possession back to the Cougars who would have their go at routine two once again. This time around, the Cougars would perform the routine under the allotted deductions and take the 2-0 lead heading into halftime.
  • Fresh out of the half, the Cougars started with possession and selected routine one where they would pick up the point and take a timeout. Fresh out of the timeout, the Cougars would jump back into routine two for the third time of the day, competing against the Comets for the first time in the routine. With the Cougars having the upper hand having already competed the routine twice, they would successfully earn the point as the Comets became plagued with stepouts and mis-timings.
  • To start the fourth quarter, the Cougars chose routine two where they would pick up points in jumps and tumbling and pyramids and tosses. The final routine of the game would be called by the Comets who would chose routine one. The Cougars would compete in all three sections of the routine and pick up points in only jumps and tumbling and secure the 7-0 win for the Cougars. This marks the Cougars' fifth straight win over the Comets.

GAME TWO: 10-2 L vs Saint Mary's University
  • Playing a 16-Round game for the second game of the day, the Cougars won the coin toss and took possession to start the game. They chose routine two where the Cougars took the first point of the game. The Belles then chose routine eight, where both teams forfeit and handed possession back to the Cougars for routine one. Both teams would secure a point, but leave CUC ahead 2-1. The Belles would choose routine six, and with a double forfeit, close the first quarter with a CUC lead.
  • To start the second quarter, the Cougars chose routine two where the Belles would steal the point and level the score at two apiece. Saint Mary's would choose routine seven resulting in a double-forfeit to hand the Cougars possession back. CUC would select routine one where SMC would take the point and their first lead of the day. After SMC choosing routine six and another double-forfeit, the Cougars would head into halftime trailing for the first time of the day 3-2.
  • Fresh into the second half, the Belles picked routine four, a routine that the Cougars would see for the first time of the day. The Belles would take the point, but the Cougars would challenge the call, but be unsuccessful. The Cougars would call routine eight and hand possession back to the Belles to select routine three and take the point. With the Cougars selecting routine seven, the third quarter would close with the Belles leading 5-2.
  • Kicking off the final quarter with the Cougars trailing, the Belles would choose routine one. The Belles would earn points in all three categories, but the Cougars would challenge once again, but fall unsuccessful. CUC would then choose routine four, where they would fail to pick up any points. With the Belles selecting routine five for their final possession of the day, the Cougars would forfeit the routine as the Belles only competed in the jumps & tumbling portion. With the Belles picking up the point in jumps & tumbling, CUC would challenge the point, but the Belles would come away with the point anyway.
  • For the final routine of the day, the Cougars called routine seven, where they would be the lone team to compete in partner stunts while both teams forfeit everything else. In one final attempt to pick up points, the Cougars would be unable to remain under the allotted deductions and fall 10-2 to the Belles.

This concludes the regular season for the Cougars, but they will await the final standings to determine if they make the berth to Nationals. Recently ranked fifth in Division III STUNT rankings, with five teams making it to Nationals, the Cougars are expected to appear in the postseason. Updates on CUC's national journey can be found at cucougars.com/coverage.
