Men's Tennis Picks Up First Win of the Season Against College of DuPage

GLEN ELLYN, ILL. - The Concordia University Chicago (CUC) men's tennis team picked up their first win of the season in a mid-season exhibition with the College of DuPage (COD). Dominating in the doubles and split in in the singles, the team showed out and broke their season-long dry spell.

DOUBLES
  • The duo of Collin Dickey (Frisco, Texas) and Reynaldo Leal (Weslaco, Texas) picked up the first point of the day for the Cougars winning their match 8-5, picking up their second doubles win as a duo this season.
  • In the number two spot, Sam Smith (Munster, Ind. ) and Nathan Stringer (Milwaukee, Wis.) picked up the 8-3 win in their match to put the Cougars up 2-0.
  • Rounding out the sweep for the Cougars was the duo of Kevin Bullens (River Forest, Ill.) and Kyle Pelzek (Hales Corner, Wis.) who won their match 8-4.
SINGLES
  • Dickey, Leal, and Stringer battled in their singles matches, but each would fall after tough fights and allow COD to level the match up at three apiece.
  • Smith would pick up the first point for the Cougars in singles, giving them the advantage once again.
  • With the Cougars needing one more point to lock in the win, Bullens would pull through with a 6-1 and 6-2 victory to put the Cougars up 5-3 and eliminate the potential for the Chaparrals to secure the win.
  • Despite the Cougars already securing the win, Diego Loveshe (Franklin Park, Ill.) would sweep both sets in his match and secure the 6-3 win for the Cougars.

The Cougars will step back into Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference play tomorrow, April 11th, as they host Lakeland University. Opening serve is set for noon and coverage can be found at cucougars.com/coverage.
