MADISON, Wis. – The Concordia University Chicago (CUC) men's volleyball team traveled to Madison, Wis. today, resuming conference play against the Edgewood College Eagles. The Cougars came back to win the third set but fell 3-1 to the Eagles. The Cougars are now 6-12 (1-4 NACC).

Inside the Box Score
Set One
Tyrise Armstrong (Grayslake, Ill.) got the day rolling with a spike to the back corner of the court.

Yet the Cougars found themselves on the backfoot, falling behind 11-3. CUC started to close the gap with kills from Mosher, Hoffman, and Armstrong to make it 14-9. Edgewood scored twice more to force a Cougar timeout. Out of the break in action, the teams traded points and a kill by Hoffman kept Concordia within five, 17-12.

Unfortunately, CUC was limited to just three more points in the set, falling 25-15.

Set Two
Set two began with the Eagles jumping out to an early 8-3 lead. A kill from Armstrong stopped Edgewood from growing their lead and Michael Cardines (Chicago, Ill.) hit a service ace.

Kills from Leon Gudzovski (Des Plaines, Ill.), Tyler Holubek (New Lenox, Ill.), and Hoffman put the Cougars within two, 11-9. The Eagles then went on a 6-0 run to build a lead, but the Cougars didn't make it easy and fought back. Down, 19-10, Ford set off a Cougar rally with a massive kill.

Gudzovski and Hoffman each recorded two kills in the rally as CUC closed in at 24-23 and forced the Eagles to take a timeout, which worked in the Eagles' favor as they scored the final point to take the set 25-23 and lead the match 2-0.

Set Three
Gudzovski captained the ship for the first four points of the set, registering three kills and a block assist with Stella.

The Cougars took a small 8-6 lead, but it was quickly tied at 11. A few errors from the Eagles, kills from Armstrong and Caminar, and blocks by Gudzovski and Ford put the Cougars up 19-15.

CUC limited Edgewood in the final moments of the set, with Caminar securing two kills to win the set 25-19. Edgewood held a 2-1 advantage in the match.

Set Four
The fourth set saw the Eagles back on top early, 8-3, forcing a Cougar timeout. After regrouping, Caminar scored for the Cougars.

Mosher and Stella scored for the Cougars as well, but the Eagles found their rhythm and built a 13-7 lead, causing CUC to take its second timeout of the set. Out of the timeout, the Cougars took advantage of a service error from the Eagles and went on a 9-4 run, with kills from Gaetto, Caminar, and Stella. Now only down one, 17-16, CUC made Edgewood take a timeout.

The Cougars continued their momentum out of the timeout with a block and a service ace from Stella to claim the lead. Two errors by Edgewood put the Concordia ahead, 20-17. The Eagles scored the next two points to close in on the Cougars. The teams traded the next few points, tying the set at 23-23. Stella put the Cougars in set point position, but Edgewood found a way to comeback and steal the set away 26-24 and take the match 3-1.

The Cougars' next match will be Tuesday March 11 at 7:00 pm. CUC hosts Aurora University. Coverage can be found at cucougars.com/coverage.
