MADISON, WIS. - The Concordia University Chicago (CUC) men's tennis team kicked off Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) play as they made the trip to Wisconsin to take on Edgewood College, falling in a heartbreaking fashion.
DOUBLES
- Leading things off for the Cougars was the duo of Collin Dickey (Frisco, Texas) and Reynaldo Leal (Weslaco, Texas) who was the lone Cougar squad to win their match. Dickey and Leal dominated and picked up the 6-1 win, but unfortunately didn't secure the doubles point for the Cougars.
- Finishing first of the three doubles matches was the number two duo of Sam Smith (Munster, Ind.) and Nathan Stringer (Milwaukee, Wis.), who would fall in their match 6-1 and give Edgewood the lone double point
- In the number three spot was the duo of Kevin Bullens (River Forest, Ill.) and Kyle Pelzek (Hales Corner, Wis.) who would fall in the tightest battle of the three with a final score of 6-4.
SINGLES
- Three Cougars picked up points in their singles matches with the first point coming from Dickey who pulled the 6-2 win in both sets of his match to give the Cougars their first point of the day.
- The next would be Diego Loveshe (Franklin Park, Ill.) who would win his match with two dominating sets, winning 6-1 and 6-2.
- With the Cougars already trailing four to two, the final point would be unable to help the Cougars secure the overall win, but would be a battle nonetheless. Leal would take set one with a 7-6 score with a 7-3 tiebreaker and following with a set two win with a score of 7-6 with a 7-2 tiebreaker.
The Cougars would fall with a tight final score of 5-4, falling to 0-8 overall and 0-1 in NACC play. They'll be back in action tomorrow, Sunday March 30
th, as they host St. Norbert College for a 3:45pm start time. Updates and coverage can be found at cucougars.com/coverage.
