River Forest, Ill. - The Concordia University Chicago (CUC) Cougars men's volleyball team stayed at home to defend their home court in their second round of Northern Athletic Collegiate Conference (NACC) play against the Raiders of the Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE). After four intense sets of play, the Cougars fell 3-1 and are now 1-1 in conference.

Inside the Box Score:
- Tyler Holubek (New Lenox, Ill.) led the Cougar offensive with 15 kills and was followed closely by his teammate Jackson Stella (Hoffman Estates, Ill.) who had 13.
- Elijah Mosher (Clayton, Ohio) had 37 assists on the four set game, and also led the Cougar defense with 12 digs.Â

Here's What Happened
Set One
The Raiders struck first but the Cougars not only answered but pulled themselves into a 4-1 lead with kills by Stella and Holubek, as well as an ace by Stella.Â

From there the Raiders forced another lead change by answering the Cougars' kills with their own as well causing the Cougars to take a timeout. With the score at 13-9 the Cougars looked to take a minute to regroup. Out of timeout the Raiders continued to charge forward. With the Raiders ahead by seven, the Cougars quickly take their second timeout of the set. The efforts of Alexander Ford (Skokie, Ill.), Marcin Hoffman (Inverness, Ill.), and Stella, attempted to comeback from the point deficit. Unfortunately, the Cougars fell in set one with the final score 25-20, Raiders.Â

Set Two
In set two, the Cougars were on the board first thanks to a beautiful swing from Stella. Swing from Ford and trick play by Elijah Mosher kept the Cougars in a 7-3 lead.Â

The Cougars remained ahead until the Raiders pulled off a three-point run which allowed the Raiders to take their first lead of the set where the score was 12-11. With the exception of a Ford kill, the momentum remained with the Raiders where they received three consecutive points, increasing their lead, causing the Cougars to take a timeout midway through set two. Heading into timeout, the score was 15-12, favoring the Raiders.Â

To finish off the set, the Raiders went 10-5 and took set two with a final score of 25-17. The Raiders were now up 2-0.Â

Set Three
The Cougars came out with an ace from Hoffman to start off set three, however the Raiders not only answered but took the lead where the score was 5-2. The Cougars attempted to comeback but the Raiders did not allow it, so with the score at 10-5, the Cougars took an early timeout. Out of timeout, the Cougars pulled off the comeback they had been looking for since the start of the game. On the next 14 points, the Cougars went 10-4 and took the lead where the score was now 15-14 favoring the Cougars. Holubek found his groove and took over, where he had a multitude of kills, six specifically, to take the Cougars into their first set win, and would force a fourth set of play.Â

Heading into the fourth set, the final score was 25-22. Taking set three the Cougars were on the lookout for a comeback but still trailed in sets. Raiders were up 2-1 heading into set four.Â

The Cougars carried their momentum from set three into the fourth where Stella put the Cougars on the board with a kill.Â

There was an exchange of points until the Raiders contained momentum in their favor and gained a five-point lead. With the score favoring the Raiders at 10-5 the Cougars were seeing a repeat of the third set, and took a timeout. Unfortunately for the Cougars, a comeback continued to become difficult to obtain as the Raiders took command over the court. The Cougars were only allowed 10 more points in the set, some of which were errors. The final score of set four was 25-15, the Raiders. Taking the fourth, the Raiders took the game 4-1.Â
