How it Happened
The Cougars pounced on the opening whistle, bringing the ball up the field and earning a quick corner. Hirayama lobbed the ball into the box to find the head of Diaz. Diaz's header went over the Spartans' goalkeeper to give the Cougars an early 1-0 lead in the third minute.
Â
However, just ten minutes later, the Spartans would equalize off their own corner kick. Concordia continued to push forward, creating multiple chances until finding the back of the net again. In the 29
th minute, Saldivar took the corner and Hirayama snapped the ball into the back of the net to take back the lead, 2-1.
Â
Marlen Bautista (Chicago, Ill.) had a shot just off target at the end of the half, and the Cougars kept a 2-1 lead into the break.
To begin the second half, Brown got off a shot within the first 15 seconds to keep the Spartans on their toes. In the 53
rd minute, Brown picked off a pass from the Spartans' goalkeeper and slid the ball into the back of the net to go up 3-1.
Â
Sheriff tipped a shot over the net in the 59

Valeria Fernandez (Burbank, Ill.),
Elle Wheelock (Holland, Mich.),
Quetzalli Arteaga-Vazquez (Harrisonburg, Va.), and Kenworthy, and the rest of the Cougars fortified against a slew of offensive presses from Aurora, denying the Spartans any chance of a comeback. The Cougars would further inflate their lead in the 77
th minute. Calderon got on the end of the service from Kenworthy, flicking it to Fairless who would slip it past the keeper for a 4-1 lead.
Â
The Cougars maintained their composure and finished out the game on top 4-1.
