PLYMOUTH, WIS. – The Concordia University Chicago women's soccer team hit the road for another NACC contest this afternoon, against the Muskies of Lakeland. It was a tough battle, with the two teams walking off the pitch with a 1-1 draw. Concordia is now 5-3-1 (1-0-1 NACC).
Inside the Box
- Mia Hirayama (Mililani, Hawaii) scored the Cougars' lone goal in the 52nd minute, assisted by Quetzalli Arteaga-Vazquez (Harrisonburg, Va.).
- Hirayama led the team with three shots, all of which were on goal.
- Natalie Flores (Placentia, Calif.) also had two shots on goal.
- The Cougars had 10 shots, eight of which were on frame.
How it Happened
As the game started, the Cougars took the ball up the field early with a quick shot from Arteaga-Vazquez and an early shot from Flores that was saved by the Muskies' goalkeeper. The Cougars continued to take their chances, forcing four saves on five shots in the half, but were held scoreless in the first 45. On the defensive end,
Brooke Sheriff (Simi Valley, Calif.) made three saves to keep the Muskies scoreless as well.
In the second half, the Cougars quickly pressed forward again. Hirayama gave Concordia the lead in the 52
nd minute, assisted by Arteaga-Vazquez. However, just four minutes later, the Muskies would slip one past the Cougars and tie the game. Hirayama forced two more saves out of Lakeland's goalkeeper, as she tried to put the Cougars ahead again, but to no avail. The final whistle blew with a scoreline of 1-1 in the NACC matchup.
