MILWAUKEE, WIS —- The Concordia University Chicago (CUC) Cougars started conference play with a loss against the Wisconsin Lutheran College (WLC) Warriors 3-0.
Inside the Box Score:
- Lili Hunt (Greenfield, Ind.) would led the Cougars in kills with a total of 7.
- Rachel Livesay (Medinah, Ill.) would follow this with 6 kills of her own.
- Malainna Adler (Fenton, Mo.) led the team in assist with a total of 16.
How It Happened:
Set 1:
The Warriors took an early lead, but Akasia Brown (Addison, Ill.) and Brooke Christensen (Blaine, Minn.) responded swiftly with a block prompting the Cougars with their first point 3-2. The Warriors and Cougars would trade points seeing Christensen acing the Warriors 4-4; this was soon followed by a joint block by Neva Foster (Parker, Colo.) and Brown, Warriors in the lead 6-5.
The Warriors would follow this by rallying points bringing their lead 13-5; an error from the Warriors would swing momentum to the Cougars, but it soon would be shifted back to the Warriors 14-6. Hunt would seek to sway the efforts towards the Cougars, which was soon followed by a kill from Jessalyne Perkins (Chicago, Ill.) but the lead was still in favor of the Warriors with the score as 15-8.
The Cougars attempted to swing momentum in their favor with a kill from Alder 16-12, however the Warriors would take control of the court continuing their lead 18-12. A kill from Perkins and joint block from her and Hunt would continue the Cougar efforts for a momentum change 20-16. But, their efforts would be squashed by the Warriors taking the first set 25-17.
Set 2:
The Warriors would take the lead early in the set 2-0. Christensen and Brown would follow this by setting up a wall tying the score 2-2. The Warriors would respond with a run 8-3. Livesay would take matters into her own hands getting the first kill and service ace for the second set for the Cougars 8-5.
The Warriors responded to Livesays' efforts swiftly by tallying points bringing their lead 17-6. Jordan Brown (Bensenville, Ill.) would end this rally of points with a kill bringing the score to 17-7. Two kills from Hunt, a kill by Livesay, and Shaira Marin (Rio Grande, Puerto Rico) in with a service ace brought the Cougars back into the set 18-11.
The Warriors would respond with a tally of points that was ended by Hunt 21-13. Ultimately, the Warriors would take set two 25-14.
Set 3:
The Warriors would take the first point of the set, but Livesay would respond with a kill of her own bringing the score 1-1. The Warriors would follow this with a rally of their own bringing the score 5-2. Hunt with a kill slightly closed the gap, the score in favor of the Warriors 5-3.
Brown and Livesay pushed a streak of kills for the Cougars bringing the score 7-5. The Warriors and Cougars would trade points, however a kill from Livesely would bring the Warriors lead to just one 9-8. However, the Warriors would pick up their momentum shifting the score to 13-8.
Perkins and Hunt would establish a block to close the gap 13-10. Following this, Hunt, J. Brown, and A. Brown would kill the defense bringing the score 15-14. However the Warriors would follow this up by tallying points 23-15. Livesay would attempt to bring momentum back to the Cougars with a kill 23-16, but the Warriors would close the set taking the game 25-18. Warriors won the game take all three sets, 3-0.
