Box Score Wheaton, Ill. - The Concordia University Chicago (CUC) women's volleyball were on the road to Wheaton where they played in day one of the Marilyn Scribner Invitational against the Beloit Buccaneers. The Cougars dominated the match, winning 3-0.

How it happened
Set One
Â
Set one started with a service ace from the Buccaneers. The Cougars decided it would be a one and done, as they quickly came out on fire. Christensen of the Cougars brought down two consecutive kills, followed by three service aces from Roethel forcing the Buccaneers into a timeout. Out of timeout, the Buccaneers got a kill, but the Cougars responded yet again with a 6-point run. This time with three consecutive kills from Christensen, a service ace from Micaela Barraza (Cape Coral, Fla.), another kill from Christensen, and lastly a kill from Jessalyne Perkins (Chicago, Ill.). The score was now 13-2, in favor of the Cougars.

The Cougars charged forward, continued to bring down several kills. The Buccaneers answered back a couple times with kills and an ace, but the Cougars lead held strong. Another Christensen kill and Roethel ace solidified the set for the Cougars. Cougars took set one with a final score of 25-12.

Set Two
The start of set two was similar to the first. The Buccaneers came out ready to play scoring the first two points of the set off of a kill and a service ace. It didn't take long for the Cougars to respond where we saw kills from Livesay and Akasia Brown (Addison, Ill.), as well as another service ace from Roethel. Bringing the Cougars in the lead, 3-2.Â

Set two was a continued battle with each time sharing 2-point and 3-point runs. The Buccaneers found themselves in a 5-point lead over the Cougars but the lead did not last long as the Cougars went on a 7-point run and forced Beloit into a timeout. At the timeout, the score was 16-14, in favor of the Cougars. Out of timeout Beloit was able to get a kill, but the Cougars responded again with a 5-point run forcing Beloit into their second timeout of the game. Out of timeout Brown had a huge block, denying the ball coming back onto their side of the court.

The Cougars kept their momentum going and only allowed two more points for the Buccaneers. The Cougars took set two with a final score of 25-16. The Cougars lead 2-0 going into set 3.

Set Three
The third set started off with each team sharing points. A couple highlights from the start of the set were kills from Livesay and Jordan Brown (Bensenville, Ill.). The score was 4-2, favoring the Cougars.Â

Following a Buccaneer kill, Adler added a pair of consecutive service aces to increase the Cougar lead to three, where the score was now 8-5.Â

The Cougars continued to dominate with two kills from Dicken and four kills from Livesay. Increasing the lead to 6, where the score was now 18-12 in favor of the Cougars.

A combination of Dicken kill and Adler service ace forced Beloit into a timeout. Out of timeout the Buccaneers were able to get a service ace and two kills bringing them within four, but the Cougars remained resilient as they were able to hold their lead and finish off the set. Cougars took set three with a final score of 25-19, and took the match 3-0.
