RIVER FOREST, ILL. – The Concordia University Chicago men's soccer team hosted the Flying Dutchman of Hope College. Despite taking an early lead, the Cougars fell 2-1 at the final whistle. The Cougars are now 1-3.
Inside the Box
- Filip Tokarz (Bartlett, Ill.) put the Cougars ahead just three minutes into the game, assisted by Cristian Ibarra (Aurora, Ill.).
- Ibarra led the team with two shots, both on net.
- Kyle Schultz (Pingree Grove, Ill.) and Nethan Gudiel (Chicago, Ill.) split time in goal, Shultz made five saves while Gudiel made one.
How it Happened
Off the whistle, the Cougars prowled up the field and earned an early corner. Ibarra lofted the ball into the box and Tokarz got his head to it and snapped it into the back of the net.
In the ninth minute, the Flying Dutchmen took a chance off a free kick, but Schultz tipped the ball over the bar to keep the Cougars in the lead. Concordia continued to seek opportunities up top with shots from
Garrett Poynter (Noblesville, Ind.) and
Bernardo Delgado (Morelia, Michoacán). However, Hope College was able to tie the game up in the 33
rd minute, and the teams went into halftime tied.
In the second half, Ibarra created a couple chances for himself, but was denied by the Flying Dutchmen's goalkeeper. The Dutchmen were able to find the back of the net in the 63
rd minute to take the lead, 2-1. The Cougars continued to battle and stay in the game. Guidel came up big for the Cougars, keeping out a bouncing ball in the box.
Michael Senese (Naperville, Ill.) tried to sneak one in late in the half, but the Dutchmen's goalkeeper made the save and the Cougars fell 2-1.
