KISSIMMEE, FLA. — For day three of The Spring Games, the Concordia University Chicago (CUC) softball team took on two opponents today in Simmons University and Carlow University. In game one, the Cougars would be overpowered by the Sharks 10-1 in five innings. For game two of the day, the Cougars would pull off the win with a final score of 9-6 against Carlow University.
Game One: L vs. Simmons University 10-1 (5 inn.)

Emily Garcia (Eastvale, Calif.) and Jessica Geng (Phoenix, Ariz.) led the offense with one hit apiece

Julia Pataluna (Commerce City, Colo.) snagged the lone RBI of the game

Eden Pufahl (Laguna Hills, Calif.) threw a career-high 2.2 innings with one strikeout and only three hits given up
How It Happened

The first inning would begin with Melisa Hadzic (Westchester, Ill.) reaching on a fielding error, and then stealing second, but would be left stranded.

Simmons would then get the lead of 2-0 after a couple of singles up the middle.

After the second and third innings, the Cougars would be unable to sink in a ball to get on base.

In the third, Pufahl would come in to relieve Kallie Tierney (Corona, Calif.), with the Sharks scoring two more runs 4-0.

Geng would then snag her first hit of the day through the left side, moving Hadzic up, but CUC would still remain without a plated run in the fourth.

At the top of the fifth, Olivia Stroker (St. Louis, Mo.) would get on base, followed by a Garcia single to left to get the bases juiced for Pataluna. She would fly out to right field to score the lone run of the game 4-1.
Game Two: W vs. Carlow University (Pa.) 9-6

Annabella Archuletta (Pueblo, Colo.) hit a career-high four hits with two doubles, two RBIs, and two runs

Geng, Pataluna, and Katelyn Smith (Chatsworth, Ga.) all snagged two hits apiece, with Smith picking up her first triple of the year

Emma Borrelli (Arlington Heights, Ill.) grabbed her first win of the season after a career-high-tying four innings pitched. Pufahl was credited with her first career save after closing the final inning of the game
How It Happened

Carlow would strike first after hitting a handful of singles and taking advantage of some fielder's choices 1-0.

The Cougars would immediately respond as Arissa Santos (Moreno Valley, Calif.) would double to left to score Garcia 1-1. Archuletta would then single to get herself on base and Geng would hit Santos around with a double of her own 2-1.

CUC would have back-to-back errors in the top of the second, with Carlow scoring again after a double to left field 3-2.

The game would remain scoreless until the bottom of the third, where Archuletta scorched a ball down the left field line for a double. After a Geng sacrifice bunt, Smith smacked a triple to tie the game back up 3-3.

Borrelli stayed vigilant in the circle; After walking the first batter in the fourth, she went on to get the next three outs and keep the Celtics from scoring.

To start off the bottom half action, Pataluna and Garcia both singled to get themselves on base. Then with a Santos walk, Archuletta would single to center with the bases juiced to take the lead 5-3. The action did not stop there, as Geng singled to score Santos 6-3.

Carlow made a response by scoring off of a single down the left field line 6-4, but Megan Bouska (Plainfield, Ill.) came in to halt the offense for the Celtics.

Bouska decided to help herself out with a double to left field, then Pataluna scored her off of a double to right 7-4.

In the bottom of the sixth, the Cougars continued to tally their hits, with Archuletta scoring on an error by the Carlow third baseman and Smith hitting Geng in 9-4.

Carlow would try to get a seventh inning rally together and cut the lead down to 9-6, but Pufahl would come in and shut them down, forcing a foul out to Pataluna in right to close the game. The Cougars would win this game over the Celtics 9-6.
