STORM LAKE, IOWA. — After sweeping the Beavers on day one, the Concordia University Chicago (CUC) STUNT team looked to make a five-win streak and a full sweep on the weekend. While taking Buena Vista University (BVU) again in day two, the Cougars got this done, as they won game one 12-3 and game two 13-4.
Game One: 12-3 W
Quarter One - Partner Stunts
The Cougars started off strong in this quarter as they hit their first round perfectly and picked up a 1-0 lead. Heading into the second round, BVU would defer and give CUC the opportunity for a 2-0 lead. The Beavers would attempt a challenge on this win, but would lose and keep the Cougars ahead.
After back-to-back deferrals from BVU, CUC would not be able to pick up the points in round three. This would end the first quarter with the Cougars leading 2-0.
Quarter Two - Pyramids & Tosses
Opening up quarter two, the two competitors both came out to showcase their routines. The first round started with exemplary outings, but BVU would take the first point 2-1. The Cougars would make a quick recovery and take the round two point 3-1.
Head Coach Eleese Farrar would call routine five for round three, but with both teams deferring, this automatically brought them into halftime. The Cougars would head into this break still leading 3-1.
Quarter Three - Jumps & Tumbling
With the jumps and tumbling sequence next, CUC would call their routine and both teams decided to compete in this call. CUC took the opening point to lead 4-1.
For the next round, CUC would come out alone on the mat, but would not win the point. Running into the next round, both competitors came out to try and take the momentum. Both teams would be awarded points, so the score became 5-2 running into the final quarter.
Quarter Four - Team Routine
In the hardest quarter of the match, these two teams looked to combine all of their skills to win up to three points. In round one, BVU would not perform in the partner stunt section, but CUC went out to try and steal some more points. Both teams would join the mat for the pyramids and tosses, as well as the jumps and tumbling sections. CUC would end up winning two points in the opening round, taking a lead of 7-2.
BVU called routine three for round two, with neither team participating in the partner stunt or pyramid and tosses section. This only allowed both teams to be eligible for one point in this round. Doing this worked out in the Cougars favor, as they took another point for a lead of 8-2.
Looking to run away with the win, CUC would be the only team on the mat to open the partner stunt section. CUC would win this point, as well as jumps and tumbling, and a tie for the pyramids and tosses. This brought the score to 10-3 with CUC out in front with a hefty lead.
The Cougars would be taking an opportunity in the partner stunts and jumps and tumbling by being the only team on the mat. However, they would elect to not compete in the pyramid and tosses section. This would help CUC to take away the win by scoring two more points, winning game one with a final score of 12-3.
