MEQUON, WIS. — Looking for a win to kick off the spring break, the Concordia University Chicago (CUC) men's volleyball team traveled up to take on their sister school, Concordia University Wisconsin (CUW). In a nightcap game, the Cougars fell to the Falcons with a score of 3-0.
Inside the Box Score:
- Jackson Stella (Hoffman Estates, Ill.) led the offense with 11 kills, newcomer Sean Beckman (Hoffman Estates, Ill.) followed closely behind with 10 of his own.
- Elijah Mosher (Clayton, Ohio) led the team with 30 assists.
- Stella and Van Gaetto (Darien, Ill.) shared the lead in digs with eight apiece.
Set One
The Cougars started off with a lead of 2-1 after action from Beckman and Stella. However, the Falcons would swiftly take back over 5-2. Then with kills from Mosher and
David Vales (Oak Forest, Ill.), CUC would trail at 8-6. Action would continue to pile on, but CUW kept a steady lead of 15-9.
A string of kills from Stella, Beckman, and
Marcin Hoffman (Inverness, Ill.) would have the Cougars chipping away 17-14. The Falcons tried to run away with the score, but back-to-back kills from Beckman and Stella kept it in view at 19-16. Catching a second wind, CUW trekked ahead and took set one with a score of 25-19.
Set Two
The two opponents would bring the score to a beginning tie of 4-4 to start set two action. Beckman picked up another kill before CUW began to rally together 10-5. A Mosher kill and Stella and
Leon Gudzovski (Des Plaines, Ill.) block brought the Cougars within three at 10-7.
Stella and Vales continued to tally on their points, but CUW was a force as they dragged their lead to 19-10. Hoffman and Stella would team up for some more action, before
Ayaaz Arif (Bolingbrook, Ill.) joined the party 21-15. However, the Falcons continued their roll and won set two 25-16.
Set Three
The Cougars were ready to come back with a vengeance at a lead of 4-2. This came from the duo of Stella and Beckman making huge waves. Stella and Hoffman popped off with some more kills, before a
Dionte Garcia (Aurora, Colo.) service ace, to bring forward the score to 8-6.
With a lead ahead, CUW made a huge string of rallies to take the lead 14-8. Mosher and Beckman looked to break up the points, but the Falcons continued 17-12. Hoffman joined the rally and picked up some more kills, before CUW entered the final stretch of points. Stella snagged one more kill before the Falcons took the set 25-17. The Falcons would take this match over the Cougars 3-0.
