Attempts By Mahler and Hickman In Ninth Just Shy Of North Park

SAUGET, ILL. — The Cougars baseball team would continue their stretch in Sauget, Illinois against North Park University, however the Cougars offense would show up late scoring four runs to close out the game 6-4.
 

Highlights

  • Jake Mahler (Vernon Hills, Ill.) led the offense with a hit to center field and had a three-RBI double, getting the Cougars to their four runs
  • Julio Cajigas (Romeoville, Ill.) also had a double to right field in the first inning.

How It Happened

  • Cougars offense came out hot with Cajigas securing a double in the first inning. He would advance to third base, but the inning would end scoreless. The Vikings reversed this and showed their strong offense by scoring three in the first inning.


  • The Cougars responded to their offense by picking up their defense the third inning securing three outs by a fly ball out, a pick off, and a fly out to center field, but the Vikings would respond in the fifth inning with two runs to make the score 5-0.
  • Alejandro Muñoz (Evergreen Park, Ill.) started the ninth inning strong for the Cougars with a double play to end the bottom of the eighth.
  • The Cougars offense would remain scoreless, until Mahler and Elijah Hickman (Rensselaer, Ind.), would bring in a total of four runs. Hickman would score the first run, being walked, and Mahler would respond with a hit to center field to bring in three runners.
