CHICAGO, ILL – Looking to pick up their second conference win of the season, the Concordia University Chicago women's tennis team headed south to take on the Illinois Institute of Technology. Despite hard-fought matches, the Cougars fell just short 5-4 to the Scarlet Hawks.
Doubles
The Cougars dominated in the doubles sets as
Kamila Giza (East Dundee, Ill.) and
Amelia Engelman (McKinney, Texas) picked up the first doubles win for the maroon and gold 8-4. Also picking up a win was duo
Amirah Shakir (Dekalb, Ill.) and
Demi Presto-Martin (Brookfield, Ill.) as they defeated their opponents 8-2. Shakir would go on to win in her singles sets as well 6-4.
Singles
In addition to Shakir,
Tatiana Overton (Bolingbrook, Ill.) had an impressive showing winning her singles set 6-4 after taking set one 6-1.
Mackenzie Straulin (Johnsburg, Ill.) also displayed a valiant effort but fell just short in the tiebreaker set 6-3.
