MILWAUKEE, WIS. – The Concordia University Chicago women's tennis team closed out their two-day trip to Wisconsin with a hard-fought loss to Milwaukee School of Engineering.
Doubles
The duo of
Kamila Giza (East Dundee, Ill.) and
Amelia Engelman (McKinney, Texas) picked up the lone win of the doubles after a hard-fought battle that was won on tiebreakers. The Cougars won the set 8-7 after securing the 7-2 tiebreaker to seal the deal. Also competing in doubles was the duo of
Tatiana Overton (Bolingbrook, Ill.) and
Ali Wingood (Chicago, Ill.) who fell 8-4 while
Jessica Parker (Lake in the Hills, Ill.) and
Mackenzie Straulin (Johnsburg, Ill.) fell in their match 8-5.
Singles
On the singles side, the Cougars put in work to try to dig out of the deficit created during doubles. The top two Cougars secured points as Engelman dominated her match with a 6-2 and a 6-0 victory. In the number two spot, Wingood picked up her victory in three sets. A 6-4 victory followed by a 6-4 loss sent the fate of the match over to a third set. Wingood would eventually secure the point after a 6-4 victory in set three.
The last Cougar to secure points on the day would be Straulin as she took down her Raider counterpart 6-4 and 7-6.
Despite a handful of Cougars putting in the hard work, they fell just short of the win, falling to the Raiders 5-4. The Cougars will be back in action on Wednesday, September 20
th as they head to the Southside to take on the Illinois Institute of Technology Scarlet Hawks for a 7:30pm start. Coverage and updates can be found at cucougars.com.
