RIVER FOREST, ILL. --- The Muskies of Lakeland Univeristy (3-4, 0-2) traveled to Concordia University Chicago (2-4, 2-0) in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference matchup this afternoon. The Cougars came out on top 4-0.
Inside the Box Score:
- Four total cougars found the back of the net. Three of those goals had assists to go with them. Jamie Seibert (Arlington Heights, Ill.), Pamela Saldivar (Chicago, Ill.), Julianna Paulsen (Villa Park, Ill.), and Medelin Loza (Cicero, Ill.) scored goals for the Cougars.
- Allie Brown (St. Louis, Mo.), Lucia Fullone (Lake in the Hills, Ill.), and Denise Carr (Rock Island, Ill.) assisted in these goals.
- Auloni Burnell (Riverside, Calif.) and Brooke Sheriff (Simi Valley, Calif.) totaled 13 saves together.
How it Happened:
First Half Burst:
Seibert wasted no time as she netted the first goal of the game only two minutes into the match. She placed the ball into the top left of the goal and this goal was assisted by Carr.
The Cougar's momentum held strong as the second goal of the game came from a penalty kick from Saldivar who faked out the Muskie's goalie and scored on the right side of the net. Seven minutes later in the 27th minute, the Cougars yet again placed the ball into the back of the net scored by Paulsen assisted by Loza and Fullone.
The Cougars were not only successful on the offensive end but also demonstrated heart and passion on the defensive end. Goalkeeper Burnell had seven total saves in the first 45 minutes. Two of these saves happened when Burnell dove for the ball in back-to-back seconds to stop the Muskies.
Second Half Action:
The second half was much quieter than the first however the Cougars were not satisfied with only three goals.
In the 67th minute, Loza was assisted by Brown as she launched one into the top right corner of the net. The Cougars made a goalie change for the second half as Sheriff stepped into the net. In her 45 minutes in the net, she tallied six total saves.
The duo of Sheriff and Burnell recorded their first shutout of the season.
