RIVER FOREST, ILL. – Kicking off the 2023 season on the road, the Concordia University Chicago men's soccer team (0-1-0, 0-0-0) fell to Earlham College (1-0-0, 0-0-0) 2-1.

Joseph Perez (Crystal Lake, Ill.)played 90 minutes in the goal for the Cougars and tallied three saves on the night.

Elias De Santiago (Chicago, Ill.) led the offense for the Cougars with two shots on goal off four total shots while securing the only goal for the Cougars.

Eight Cougars saw full playing time on the night as Julian Yanez (Cicero, Ill.), Garrett Poynter (Noblesville, Ind.), JJoey Smeriglio (Park Ridge, Ill.), Michael Frank (Fort Wayne, Ind.), Brandon Arias (Bensenville, Ill.), Alexander Lechowicz (Chicago, Ill.), Chris Dybas (LaGrange, Ill.), and Perez all put 90 minutes forward on the pitch. 
	 
How it Happened
1st Half
The Cougars started out the night intense on defense. Two quick bookings for the Cougars gave the Quakers the opportunity for their first goal of the night. Despite the Quakers picking up a goal within the first 12 minutes of the game, the Cougars continued to attack. Three consecutive shots from De Santiago gave the Cougars multiple scoring opportunities, but ultimately were unable to find the back of the net in the first half.
2nd Half
Fresh out of the half the Cougars continued to attack and De Santiago was able to find the back of the net and bring the Cougars within one.

Despite continuing to pressure throughout the remainder of the game, the Cougars couldn't find the equalizer to tie things up and ultimately fell to the Quakers 2-1.
