RIVER FOREST, ILL. – Kicking off their 2023 season on a freshly resurfaced court, the Concordia University Chicago women's tennis team fell to North Park University 9-0.
DOUBLES
The new duo of
Amelia Engelman (McKinney, Texas) and
Amirah Shakir (Dekalb, Ill.) picked up the first points of the day for the Cougars despite falling in their match 8-3. Also picking up a point during doubles was the duo of
Kamila Giza (East Dundee, Ill.) and
Jessica Parker (Lake in the Hills, Ill.), the former would go on to secure two points during her singles match.
SINGLES
Four Cougars picked up points during singles as senior
Ali Wingood (Chicago, Ill.) picked up a point in the number one spot to lead things for CUC. Freshman
Tatiana Overton (Bolingbrook, Ill.) battled in her first appearance and picked up two points against her Viking counterpart, but was unable to secure the win.
In the closest battle of the singles,
Mackenzie Straulin (Johnsburg, Ill.) fell 6-8 closing things out for the Cougars.
