Cougars Fall In Both Road Matches

LISLE, ILL. — The Concordia University Chicago (CUC) women's team traveled off campus today for a two-match series to continue their 2023 season. This morning, they faced off against Carroll University and North Central College. They would fall to both of these opponents, 8-1 against Carroll and 9-0 against North Central.

Game One: 8-1 L vs. Carroll University

In the doubles matches, the lone points of the game would be picked up by Amelia Engelman (McKinney, Texas) and Mackenzie Straulin (Johnsburg, Ill.), as they won 8-4. The other two doubles matches would score a couple of points of their own, but would not win the overall matches.

In singles, Jessica Parker (Lake in the Hills, Ill.) would be the highlighted match as she had a huge battle against her opponent. She would be narrowly defeated with scores of 7-5 and 6-2. Additionally, Tatiana Overton (Bolingbrook, Ill.) would lose her first round 6-0, but lost 6-2 after trying to make a comeback.

The Cougars would be defeated in this match with a final score of 8-1.

Game Two: 9-0 L vs. North Central College

In game two, the doubles matchups would be mixed up a bit, as an Overton and Engelman duo would be the highlight of the afternoon. They would be barely defeated with a score of 8-2 in their match against the Cardinals.

In singles, four Cougars would start to steal points away from their opponents in Parker, Straulin, Kamila Giza (East Dundee, Ill.), and Ali Wingood (Chicago, Ill.). However, these moments would not be enough to be North Central and CUC would fall 9-0 in this match.

The Cougars will be back on campus next Friday, September 8th to take on Illinois Wesleyan University at 4 p.m. Coverage for all of our sports can be found at cucougars.com/coverage.
