RIVER FOREST, ILL. -- After celebrating their seniors with a pregame ceremony, the Concordia University Chicago Cougars closed out the regular season with a sweep on their home court over the Edgewood College Eagles.
INSIDE THE BOX
- Tyler Holubek (New Lenox, Ill.) led the offense with 14 kills, bringing his season total to 363 kills. This writes Holubek's name in the number one spot in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) record book for single-season kills (previously 361).
- Elijah Mosher (Clayton, Ohio) recorded a big night as he led the Cougars with blocks, assists, and digs picking up five, 29, and ten, respectively.
- David Vales (Oak Forest, Ill.) added two service aces on the night.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Cougars and Eagles went back-and-forth for the first half of set one before back-to-back kills from Matthew Lams (Brookfield, Ill.) would bring the Cougars up by ten and secure the set one win.
- The Cougars started off set two hot after a string of kills from Holubek, Luke Vozenilek (Westmont, Ill.), and Andrej Moller (Naperville, Ill.) would give the Cougars the 5-0 lead.
- The Cougars continued to build off their momentum as they consistently picked up consecutive points off kills from Colby Campbell (Brookfield, Ill.), Holubek, Vozenilek, Vales, and Mosher.
- Kills from Vales and Mosher would close set two with a score of 25-17, securing the second set victory for the Cougars.
- Starting off set three much like the previous, the Cougars jumped to a 4-0 lead after a hungry Vozenilek and Holubek went to work. A second string of 4-0 points for the Cougars would come a few moments later as they would jump to a ten point lead halfway through the third set.
- As the Cougar lead continued to grow, Holubek swung his 12th kill of the night to tie the NACC record for single-season kills before throwing down two more kills to close the third and final set and take his place as the NACC leader for single-season kills.
- The Cougars took the 3-0 victory and picked up one last win on their home court for the 2023 season.
