Egbo Continues To Destroy His Own Records As Cougars Compete In Florida and Illinois

 

WHEATON, ILL. & JACKSONVILLE, FLA. — Making waves in the Sunshine State and back here in Illinois, the Concordia University Chicago (CUC) men's track and field team was busy. The team split this weekend as some athletes traveled to the University of North Florida for the East Coast Relays where they competed against Division I athletes. The remainder of the Cougars were at Wheaton College for the Elmhurst Twilight Invitational.

 

Notable Cougar Performances

  • Competing in the North Florida East Coast Relays against Division I talent, Martin Egbo (Williamsburg, Va.) shattered his previously broken hammer throw record from last week. He threw a 49.09 meters which breaks his record from last week by almost two whole meters. Egbo also placed seventh overall against extremely tough opponents.

  • Also competing in the East Coast Relays was Gustavo Alvarez (Chicago, IL). In the pole vault, Alvarez placed eleventh against DI talent with a height of 4.60 meters
  • Avery Jones (Hazelwood, Mo.) placed first overall in the high jump with a mark of 1.87 meters. He also secured a ninth place finish in long jump with 5.92 meters.
  • The 4x400 relay team consisting of Matthew Cardwell (Cincinnati, Ohio ), Adrian Mendez (Plano, Ill.), Vincent Scarnato (Pottstown, Pa.), and Austin Knight (Forest Park, Ill.) placed third overall with a time of 3:33.43

  • Picking up a new personal record (PR) and fifth place finish was Knight in the 200-meter with a time of 23.04

Cougar Personal Records

  • Taking his stand down in Florida, Mauricio Xochitecatl (Carol Stream, IL) raced in the 1500-meter and ran a season-best 4:09.17.

  • Picking up two PRs was William Leonard (Oskaloosa, Iowa), first in the 1500-meter with a 4:34.89. Then, in the 3000-meter, he destroyed his old PR by more than 30 seconds at 10:04.45

  • Finally, Scarnato and John Cano (North Riverside, Ill.) rounded out the PRs on the day in the 200-meter at 23.77 and 24.33, respectively.
