RIVER FOREST, ILL. -- The Concordia University Chicago women's lacrosse team took on the Marian Sabres on Saturday, April 1st to kick off Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) play, taking down the Sabres 9-8.

Rylee Orenstein (Walnut Creek, Calif.)Â and Jessica Parker (Lake in the Hills, Ill.) both tallied two goals on the day.

The Cougars kicked things off with a high-intensity goal from Chloe Schaafsma (Lockport, Ill.) within the first two minutes of the game. The Cougars kept the intensity high as they would fight off the Sabre defense for the entirety of the first quarter while securing another goal with two minutes in the quarter on Parker's first goal of the day.
As the narrative of the game flipped to start the second quarter, the Cougars found themselves in a one goal deficit following three consecutive Sabre goals. The Cougars answered back with a minute remaining in the half with a goal of their own from Brynn Beetow (Buffalo, N.Y.)Beetow to tie things back up.Â
In a goal-after-goal battle that saw the Cougars consistently trailing by one, back-to-back Cougar goals from Parker and Pietrowski would give the Cougars the lead late in the third quarter, which they would hold onto for the remainder of the game.Â
