MILWAUKEE, WIS. — The Concordia University Chicago (CUC) men's track and field team brought the fire to the meet this weekend. Traveling to Wisconsin Lutheran college, the Cougars competed in the Warrior Invitational and finished seventh as a team overall.

Gustavo Alvarez (Chicago, IL) picked up his first win of the season in pole vault with a height of 4.70 meters. This vault puts him in the top 20 in the country. In the javelin throw, Alvarez finished second with a new personal record of 46.40 meters

Avery Jones (Hazelwood, Mo.) was able to place third in the high jump with a distance of 1.86 meters

Placing third in the 4x100 was Matthew Cardwell (Cincinnati, Ohio ), Austin Knight (Forest Park, Ill.), Vincent Scarnato (Pottstown, Pa.), and John Cano (North Riverside, Ill.). Additionally, the 4x400 placed fourth with Mauricio Xochitecatl (Carol Stream, IL), Cardwell, Scarnato, and Knight

With a solid finish of third in discus and hammer throw, Martin Egbo (Williamsburg, Va.) threw a distance of 32.63 meters in discus and 45.19 meters in hammer, which is a new personal record. In seventh place, Egbo placed high in shot put with a throw of 12 meters

Adrian Mendez (Plano, Ill.) and Callum Hardwicke (Lake St. Louis, Mo.) both had PRs in the 400-meter dash. Mendez with a time of 55.04 and 57.44

Also both picking up new PRs were William Leonard (Oskaloosa, Iowa) and Gus Strenge (Battle Creek, MI) in the 1500-meter dash. Leonard had a time of 4:45.17 and Strenge with a time of 4:57.18

Jones also picked up a new PR in the long jump with a distance of 5.96 meters
The Cougars will be split next weekend as some will be traveling to the University of Illinois for the Gary Wieneke Memorial on April 21-22nd.
