Foresters Downed By Cougars

RIVER FOREST, ILL. -- Taking a pause in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) play, the Concordia University Chicago Cougars took down the Lake Forest College Foresters 5-2.

INSIDE THE BOX
  • Arissa Santos (Moreno Valley, Calif.) and Jessica Geng (Phoenix, Ariz.) both went two-for-four at the plate while Geng picked up one RBI on the day.
  • Nikita Robbins (Lafayette, Ind.) shined for the Cougars going one-for-two at the plate while securing two RBIs.
  • Four pitchers stepped inside the circle for the Cougars as Kallie Tierney (Corona, Calif.) picked up her third win of the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Cougars struck first as they picked up a 1-0 lead in the top of the first after leadoff hitter Becky Pieroni (Montgomery, Ill.) took a walk to first to start the game followed by a sacrifice bunt from Gina Westphal (Elmhurst, Ill.) that put Pieroni in scoring position. With Annabella Archuletta (Pueblo, Colo.) and Hailey Howard (Machesney Park, Ill.) working Pieroni around the bases, the senior shortstop made her way home to secure the early lead.
  • A quick three up, three down for the Cougars' defense put them back at the plate where they'd pick up three runs off two hits from Geng and Robbins to jump to a 4-0 lead.
  • With Emma Borrelli (Arlington Heights, Ill.) working inside the circle, the Cougars went two full innings without giving up a run before transfer Jaidyn Harris (Jurupa Valley, Calif.) took the field and threw two more innings for the Cougars. 
  • Before the Foresters were able to put up any runs, the Cougars added another after hits from Howard, Santos, Geng, and Alexis Hilgert (Naperville, Ill.) would create more movement around the bases and give them their fifth and final run of the game.
  • Giving up two runs in the bottom of the fourth, the Cougars relied on pitchers Tierney and Ashley Shroll (Tampa, Fla.) to close things out for the Cougars, securing the win 5-2.
