FRANKLIN, IND. — The Concordia University Chicago (CUC) women's lacrosse team took a spring break trip to Franklin College to take on the Grizzlies. While jumping out to a quick start, the Cougars were unable to defeat the Grizzlies and fell 17-7.
Inside the Box Score:
-
Leading the offense, Jessica Parker (Lake in the Hills, Ill.) and Kelli Pietrowski (Wheeling, Ill.) both score three goals a piece, both a season high for the duo
-
Kate Johnson (Lincoln, Neb.) scored her first career goal with an assist from Parker
-
Also picking up an assist on the day was Chloe Schaafsma (Lockport, Ill.)
The Cougars started off red hot to begin the game as Parker scored the first goal of the game to go up 1-0. However, the Grizzlies responded immediately as they scored three consecutive goals in the first period. Ryan McGee (Chicago, Ill.) was able to hold the Grizzlies to this lead as they led 3-1. Starting off the second period, the Grizzlies were able to score one more to go up 4-1. That was when Pietrowski scored her first from the day with an assist from Parker to cut the lead 4-2. Franklin then went on a five-goal rally before Parker got one more unassisted goal before the end of the half.
The Grizzlies continued their momentum into the second half as they took their lead to 12-3. However, Johnson picked up her first career goal of the year with an assist from Parker to chip away at the score. As the game moved into the fourth period, Franklin led with a score of 14-4. Parker and Pietrowski would then pick up back-to-back goals to bring forth some late game energy for the Cougars. Pietrowski would then make one more goal for the game, but it would be too late for CUC to pick up the win. The Cougars fell to the Grizzlies 17-7.
The Cougars take a short break before heading back on the road on March 18th. They will face off at Augustana College, scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. start time. Coverage for all of our sports can be found at cucougars.com/coverage.
