MILWAUKEE, WIS. -- On the first Saturday of October, the Concordia University Chicago (CUC) women's soccer team (2-10-1, 2-6-0) spent their afternoon in Wisconsin against Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) (11-1-2, 7-1 0) in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) matchup. The Cougars fell on the losing side to the Raiders by the final score 2-0.
Inside the Box
- Goalkeeper Auloni Burnell (Riverside, Calif.) although conceding two goals, made an impressive 17 saves on the day, which ties both her season and career high for the second time this season.
- Defenders Grace Glodoski (Plainfield, Ill.) and Valeria Fernandez (Burbank, Ill.) both recorded one shot on the day.
1st Half
The Cougars' one shot in the half came thanks to Glodoski at the 3:59 mark with her shot just missing the right side of the net. The team held their own throughout the opening 25 minutes of the game in large part thanks to Burnell's five saves, before MSOE broke through at 26:14 mark to give themselves the 1-0 lead off the foot of Leena Afifi. The Cougars held on defensively for the rest of the half to only be down by one. Burnell ended the half with another five saves, making the number of saves at ten through 45 minutes.
2nd Half
MSOE's relentless attack in the final third continued, but Burnell held her own making another seven saves, keeping her team in it. The Cougars' best opportunity came near the half point of the half, when Fernandez's shot was saved by MSOE's Megan Lacina on the bottom righthand corner of the net at 69:30. After not conceding a goal for nearly the entire half, the Raiders would seal the game late in the going as Afifi would net herself her second goal of the game ending the game 2-0.
