Looking to bounce back after a 0-2 start to the season, the Concordia University Chicago men's volleyball team (0-3, 0-0) welcomed the North Park University Vikings (4-2, 0-0) to Geiseman Gymnasium Saturday night. After a close set one, North Park took control of sets two and three to sweep their way to victory, 3-0.

First Set
Set one started off as close as possible, with neither team leading by more than one point until a David Vales (Oak Forest, Ill.) kill and a Viking's attack error gave CUC a 7-5 lead.
With the score 11-9 in favor of the Cougars, back-to-back North Park points evened things at 11. The teams traded two-point runs, with Concordia grabbing a lead before the Vikings tied things up again.
Finally, a 3-0 run gave North Park their first lead of the night, 17-16. CUC briefly tied the set, but a 7-1 run lead to Vikings set point, 24-18. An Andrej Moller (Naperville, Ill.) kill prolonged the set slightly, but North Park finished things off on the next volley, taking set one 25-19.
Second Set
Set two was all Vikings from the start. The visitors jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead before Holubek gave the Cougars their first point of the set. North Park grabbed six of the next seven points, building a 10-2 advantage.
A 3-2 Concordia run cut the deficit down to six, but another big Vikings run jacked the lead to 10, 18-8. The Cougars showed some late signs of life, going on a four-point jaunt, but the Vikings were able to close things out, cliniching the set 25-15.
Third Set
With their backs up against the ropes, Concordia kept things close to start set three. But with the score at 4-3, North Park started to pull away. A 5-1 run set the Vikings's lead at 9-4.
Blows were then traded back and forth for the majority of the set. Only up by three, North Park took four of the next five from CUC for a 17-11 lead. Strong play from the Cougars cut the lead down to four.
The Vikings shutdown Concordia until set point was reached, 24-17. Consecutive kills from Vales kept CUC's chances alive for a little longer, but a final blow from Ty Ingrao shut down any possibility of a Cougar comeback.
A trip to Wittenberg University is next on the docket for Concordia, who travel to Springfield, Ohio, on Friday, Feb. 3. First serve is set for 6 p.m., and coverage can be found at
