CHICAGO, Ill. -- On Wednesday evening, the Concordia University Chicago men's soccer team took to the field against the nationally ranked Maroons of the University of Chicago, ultimately falling 4-0.
The University of Chicago took control of the game early, putting two shots against Cougar keeper Nicholas Pasut (New Boston, Mich.) within the first few minutes. The Cougars hunkered down and spent most of the first half congesting the middle of the box, forcing the Maroons to do the majority of their work from the outside. As the Maroons continued to play a lot of long balls, a strong back line led by Michael Byron (Park Ridge, Ill.) and Michael Frank (Fort Wayne, Ind.) broke up any possible opportunities.Â
As the clock wound down in the first half, the Maroons were able to find the back of the net after sneaking one past Pasut and taking the lead.
With a one-goal deficit coming into the second half, the Cougars continued to play a physical game in order to combat the intense Maroons' offense. Roughly ten minutes into the second half, the University of Chicago was able to break down the Cougar defense and put their second goal of the night on the board.Â
With a free kick from the 20-yard line looking like a promising jump start for the Cougars, Oscar Montejano (Zion, Ill.) was just off frame and bounced it off the crossbar. Ultimately, the Maroons were able to add two more goals on the night while keeping the Cougars away from the net.Â
The Cougars close out their non-conference play on Monday as they head up to Lake Forest College to take on the Foresters at 4:30pm. Coverage can be found at cucougars.com.coverage.Â
