Cougars Close Road Stretch with Loss to Foresters

Lake Forest Ill. -- The Concordia University Chicago men's soccer team closed out their non-conference schedule with a loss to the Lake Forest College Foresters.

Inside the Box

  • The Cougars outshot the Foresters 12-11 with the Foresters topping the Cougars in shots-on-goal by a mere 5-4.

  • Joseph Perez (Crystal Lake, Ill.) made his season debut in the goal taking over in the second half for Nicholas Pasut (New Boston, Mich.). Each keeper recorded one save a piece.
  • The Foresters extended their win streak over the Cougars to 13 straight victories.
  • Michael Byron (Park Ridge, Ill.), Michael Frank (Fort Wayne, Ind.), Alberto Arellano (Chicago, Ill.), and Alexander Lechowicz (Chicago, Ill.) each recorded two shots on the day.

The Cougars quickly fell behind after allowing back-to-back goals for the Foresters within the first 20 minutes of the half. As the Cougars struggled to get going offensively, they relied on their defensive game to keep them alive. The intense defense proved effective as the Foresters could not score for the remainder of the first half.

The tension increased as the defense continued to intensify, resulting in multiple bookings across the board. The Cougars earned a season-high 18 fouls, including three yellow cards, while the Foresters recorded 17 fouls with four yellow cards.

A free kick from Oscar Montejano (Zion, Ill.) with six seconds on the clock posed one last opportunity for the Cougars to get on the board, but a header from Frank overshot the goal to close the game with a final score of 3-0.

The Cougars end their stretch of road contests as they come home for the home opener on Wednesday, September 14th for a 4:30 pm kickoff. Coverage for all things Concordia University Chicago men's soccer can be found at cucougars.com.
