RIVER FOREST, ILL. --- The Concordia University Chicago men's soccer team (0-4) opened conference play with their first home game of the season against Benedictine University (2-2-2) Wednesday afternoon. It was a physical match from the start, but the Eagles prevailed in the second half winning 1-0.

The first half saw physical play from both teams with nothing to show for on the scoreboard. Both teams combined for 11 fouls: five for Benedictine and six for CUC.
 
The Eagles out shot the Cougars 10-2. Brayan Gonzalez and Alexander Lechowicz delivered shots for the Cougars, but neither were on goal. Joseph Perez made two spectacular saves denying prime scoring opportunities for the Eagles.
 
 
The Eagles broke the scoreless tie in the 64^th minute. Moses Mata punched it in from the box with the assist from Michael Szaflarski.
 
The Cougars' offense woke up in the second half, but couldn't fine the back of the net on six shots in the half. The Cougars had a late chance on a corner kick in the 89^th minute, but failed to present a prime scoring opportunity.
