RIVER FOREST, Ill. --- Closing out a busy opening weekend, the Concordia University Chicago women's tennis team made their home debut on Sunday afternoon, taking on the Alverno College Inferno in a non-conference match. The Cougars put on a complete performance from start to finish, downing the Inferno 8-1 on the CUC Tennis Courts.
The Cougars took all three points in doubles play.
Heidi Hesse and
Ali Wingood won at number one double 8-1.
Kamila Giza and Sarah Kirchoff followed that performance, winning their match 8-1 as well. Alverno had to forfeit the third doubles match, giving CUC a 3-0 lead after doubles play.
CUC continued to roll in singles. Hesse kept her strong season going, improving to 3-0 on the season, downing her opponent 6-1, 6-0 at number one singles. Wingood kept the CUC run going, winning at number two singles 6-3, 6-0. Kirchoff and
Jessica Parker each picked up points during singles play as well. Kirchoff disposed of her opponent 6-1, 6-0 at number four singles, and Parker won at number five singles 6-0, 6-2.
Concordia closed out the win by a final score of 8-1. The Cougars now will prepare to open Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) play with a pair of matches on September 10th. CUC will play at Marian University at 10:00am before taking on Concordia Wisconsin at 3:00pm.
