CHICAGO, Ill. – The Cougars Women's Tennis team traveled to Chicago today for a match against Wartburg College of Waverly, Iowa and the host North Park. These two games today opened up the season for Concordia Chicago.
With an opening match up against the Knights, the Cougars ultimately fell in the team competition 1-8. Newcomer Heidi Hesse (La Crau, France) led the way for the team with two wins in her singles matches today to secure the point for the team. Hesse and her doubles partner, Sarah Kirchoff also had the team high score in doubles as well.
As for the rest of Concordia Chicago, Kamila Giza (East Dundee, Ill.) lost in two tough singles matches with a score of 2-6 and 4-6. Jessica Parker (Lake in the Hills, Ill.), Ali Wingood (Chicago, Ill.), and Kirchoff also put up numbers in their singles matches.
In the afternoon match against the Vikings, Hesse again won both of her singles matches to give the Cougars their point in the 1-8 loss. Hess and Wingood, as well as Parker and Giza had two close matches in the doubles section of the day. Mackenzie Straulin (Johnsburg, Ill.) was also able to provide a strong performance in her singles match in the back half.
