MOUNT VERNON, IA -- The Concordia University Chicago women's tennis team took a break from conference play and hit the road to take on Cornell College where they fell 7-2.

The Cougars struggled in doubles, as they were unable to pick up a point in the first three matches. In the number one doubles match the duo of Ali Wingood (Chicago, Ill.) and Kamila Giza (East Dundee, Ill.) battled intensely, but would ultimately fall 8-4.

Looking to pick up some points in singles play, Heidi Hesse (La Crau, France) went to work in the number one singles match. Hesse swept both sets 6-3 and 6-4, picking up the first point of the day for the Cougars. Finishing next for the Cougars, Wingood picked up the second point of the day with her 6-3 and 6-1 wins. After their two singles wins, the Cougars were able to close things up, still trailing 3-2.

Unable to pick up any other points on the day, the Cougars fell 7-2. They'll be back in action on Saturday, October 1st to continue conference play at home against Edgewood College. Coverage can be found at cucougars.com/coverage.
