MOUNT VERNON, IA -- The Concordia University Chicago men's tennis team played the first match of their fall season, falling to Cornell College 8-1.
Unable to pick up points in doubles, the Cougars fell behind 3-0 early on. Newcomer duo Nathan Stringer and Diego Loveshe compete in the number one doubles match, falling 8-0 while returners Caleb Gustafson and Joshua Wright competed in the number two doubles match falling 8-1. In the third doubles match, Reynaldo Leal and Kevin Januska put up a back-and-forth fight, ultimately falling 8-5.
Looking to build some momentum back as they entered the singles matches, the Cougars continued to battle with three Cougars taking their matches to three sets.
In singles match number three, Leal swiped the first set 7-6 while falling in the second set 7-5. Unable to pick up the point for the Cougars, Leal fell in the third set 10-8.
In singles match number four, Wright fell in set one 6-0 but switched the momentum after picking up a 7-6 win in the next set. After picking up the previous set, Wright was able to hold onto the momentum and take the third set 10-8 and grab the first point of the day for the Cougars.
In singles match number five, Loveshe fell in the first set 6-3 while picking up the win in the second set 6-4. Unable to close for the Cougars, Loveshe fell in the third set 10-7 closing the day for the Cougars.
