Cougars Remain Scoreless Against Spartans

Montgomery, Ill. -- The Concordia University Chicago men's soccer team (0-6, 0-3 NACC) fell in their road match against the Aurora University Spartans (2-1-4, 1-0-2 NACC) 4-0.

Inside the Box

  • The Cougars were outshot by the Spartans 16-12 overall while most notably the Spartans outshot the Cougars in shots-on-goal a massive 12-4.

  • Garrett Poynter (Noblesville, Ind.), Giovanni Velasquez (Cicero, Ill.), Alexander Lechowicz (Chicago, Ill.), and Andres Marin (Chicago, Ill.) each recorded one shot on goal.

  • The Cougars played three goalkeepers in the contest as Nicholas Pasut (New Boston, Mich.) grabbed two saves, Joseph Perez (Crystal Lake, Ill.) grabbed five, and Ethan Ruttenberg (Granby, Colo.) grabbed one in his season debut.

The Cougars fell behind early in the first half after senior keeper Pasut let one sneak past him in the 16th minute. The Cougar defense locked in and held the Spartans to one goal in the first half, while they attempted to pick up their offensive pressure. The Cougars fought relentlessly as they tried to even the score, jumpstarted by a shot from Brayan Gonzalez (Glendale Heights, Ill.) in the 33rd minute. 

Coming into the second half, the Spartans kicked things into high gear and went on to play a dominating 45 minutes. Picking up three more goals, the Spartans were able to put the Cougars away scoreless.
