RIVER FOREST, Ill. --- After their two conference meets yesterday, the Concordia University Chicago women's tennis team finished off the weekend against conference opponent Milwaukee School of Engineering Sunday afternoon. The team battled to the end, but it was too little too late for the Cougars, as they fall to the Raiders 7-2.
The Cougars dropped all three of their doubles matches to start the day.
Heidi Hesse (La Crau, France) and
Kamila Giza (East Dundee, Ill.) lost 8-4 to Michaela Haensgen and Gabrielle Haensgen. After an early lead in their match,
Madison Perkins (Louisville, Ky.) and
Mackenzie Straulin (Johnsburg, Ill.) lost their paring by a score of 8-6 to Brenna Sheehan and Bethany Noonan. In the final doubles match,
Ali Wingood (Chicago, Ill.) and
Jessica Parker (Lake in the Hills, Ill.) duked it out with Yuti Modi and Hope Triplett into a tiebreaker set. Despite their comeback effort, Wingood and Parker lost the tie breaker set 7-0 and the match 8-7.
Hesse and Wingood picked up the only points for the Cougars on the day. Hesse won in 2 sets, by scores of 6-3 and 7-5 to improve to 5-1 in singles matches. Wingood picked up her second singles win of the season in two sets by scores of 6-2 and 6-3. Giza, Parker, and Straulin all fell in two sets in their singles matches.
Alexa Hoover (Fort Wayne, Ind.), a late add in the sixth match, fell in two sets as well.
The Cougars hit the road for their next match on Thursday, September 15
