Ann Arbor, Mich. — The Concordia University Chicago STUNT team hit the road on Saturday for a doubleheader at Concordia University Ann Arbor to close out their inaugural regular season. After dropping a close one in game one, the Cougars responded with a 12-9 win in game two to earn a split for the afternoon.
Game One
The opener was close from the very beginning, as the Cougars held a slim 2-1 lead at the conclusion of the first quarter. They built on this early lead with a strong showing in the next ten minutes and took a 4-3 advantage into the halftime break.
The Cardinals responded quickly out of the half, knotting things up at four following the first routine of the third quarter. Both teams were then awarded points on the second routine and the score remained tied, this time at five apiece.
Tied at six entering the final routine of the third, the Cardinals were able to secure the final point to take a 7-6 lead into the fourth.
That lead quickly grew to 10-7, and the Cougars were faced with their backs against the wall in hopes of making a late comeback. Following the second routine of the quarter, it was 12-7. The Cougars were able to pick up two more points from that point forward, but another point from the Cardinals sealed their fate in the 13-9 loss.
Game Two
The Cougars bounced back in game two to close the regular season on a high note. They were awarded the first point of the game and rode that momentum for the remainder of the routines.
Up 2-1 after the first two routines, the Cougars were able to add to their lead. For the second time in as many games, CUC led after the first quarter, this time 3-1.
Concordia Ann Arbor was able to get one of these points back early in the second, but a convincing late push by the Cougars secured a 5-3 lead heading into the half.
This momentum carried over into the second half, as the Cougars took the point in the first routine of quarter three. They hung onto this lead and needed to fight off a bit of a push by the home team, but ultimately went to the fourth with an 8-6 advantage.
Following the team routine to open quarter four, the Cougars took a commanding 10-7 lead and inched closer to closing out the game and earning the split.
Two more points were awarded to the Cougars after the second round, and they rode that 12-9 lead to victory by the same score. Their fourth win of their inaugural season.
This marks the end of the regular season, with the team set to compete at the 2022 STUNT DIII College Nationals from April 30-May 1 in Toledo, Ohio on the campus of the University of Toledo. Coverage for all the weekend's action will be available at cucougars.com/coverage.
