Inside the Box
The Cougars started out strong, scoring within the first three minutes of the game. Splitting two defenders,
Elizabeth Cyrwus was able to slip one past the goalie taking a 1-0 lead. Kalamazoo took charge and evened the score shortly after before the Cougars would step up the intensity. A series of three consecutive goals from both
Elizabeth Cyrwus and
Emily Cyrwus followed with one from Naes would give the Cougars their largest lead of the day.Â

Â
Another goal from Kalamazoo would cut the lead to two, stripping the Cougar momentum. Due to the extreme cold temperature, both teams were sent to the locker room for a warming period before stepping back on the field for the remaining ten minutes of the half. Struggling to get things moving on the offensive end, the Cougars went on a dry spell for almost 12 minutes before a go-ahead goal from Orenstein ended the half.Â
Â
Fresh into the second half, Kalamazoo continued their hot streak and put up three goals in the third quarter to jump ahead 7-5. Another goal from
Elizabeth Cyrwus brought the Cougars closer to catching up, but one last Kalamazoo goal solidified their lead. The game remained stagnant and closed out with a final of 8-6.
Â
After this game, the Cougars sit at 1-2 overall as they face a quick turnaround, playing Depauw tomorrow afternoon at 2:00pm. Coverage can be found at
