CUC Falls In Non-Conference Match With Trinity Christian

PALOS HEIGHTS, Ill. --- Hitting the road for a non-conference road match, the Concordia University Chicago Cougars men's volleyball team took on the Trinity College Trolls on Thursday night. The Cougars struggled to get any rhythm offensively, falling to the Trolls 3-0.

Inside the Box Score

  • Luke Vozenilek (Westmont, Ill.) led the offense with nine kills.

  • Virgilio Rodriguez (Cicero, Ill.) led the team in assists with 16.

  • Eight different players recorded a dig for CUC. 

In set one Trinity grabbed the lead to start the first set on two CUC attack errors. The Cougars continued to fight, pulling back within one on multiple occasions. David Vales (Oak Forest, Ill.) made it 13-12 TCC midway through the set, but Trinity was able to fend off all cougar attacks to take the opening set 25-19.

The Cougars got things started quickly in set two with an Erickberto Perez (Melrose Park, Ill.) kill. Then with Vozenilek serving the Cougars added on three more points to take a 4-1 lead. Trinity battled back to even the set at seven. CUC grabbed the lead momentarily at 10-9 on a Blake Rosen (Aldie, Va.) ace. Concordia continued to lead by one late in the set, but Trinity was able to score the last five points of the set to take set two 25-21. 

CUC scored the opening point of set three, but then Trinity was able to get on a roll. The Cougars were able to pull things back within three on a number of occasions but were unable to keep the runs going to pull even. Concordia dropped set three 25-21.
