Â
After the Cougars kicked off to start the game, the Regents began their first offensive drive only to be disrupted by a hungry Travon Thomas. Thomas picked up his only interception of the day taking the ball 45 yards back into the endzone to put the Cougars on the board first. The Ryan Auer extra point put the Cougars up 7-0 within the first three minutes of the game.
Â
Â
The Cougar defense stayed aggressive, forcing the Regents to punt after a Justin Aduo sack started the Regents' initial drive. Fresh off the punt, the Cougars earned two back-to-back first downs after massive rushing yards and passing yards marched them down the field and brought them within 20 yards to the endzone. On a second down attempt, Pratley found freshman Blake Henson for a 17-yard pass, bringing the Cougars ahead 14-0 after another good PAT from Auer.
Â
Â
As the second quarter got underway, the Cougar defense continued to be a problem for the Regents. On a fourth down field goal attempt, Martin Egbo got up and blocked the 29-yard kick while freshman Charles Kirtly recovered it. Shortly after, Brendon Baugh picked up his lone interception of the day while picking up 29 yards on the return.Â
Â
Â
The Cougars closed the half with a 14-7 lead after the Regents were able to make their way down the field and sneak in the endzone on a six-yard touchdown. Fresh out of the half, the Cougars picked up the intensity on both the defensive and offensive ends. Brandon Montford picked off a pass and ran it back for the 88-yard touchdown.Â
Â
Â
After Pratley's rushing touchdown, the Cougars led 28-7. The Regents were able to sneak into the endzone again, but not without vengeance from the Cougar defense. On the extra point attempt, a wild long snap led to Kirtley's recovery and run to the endzone for two extra points for the Cougars.Â
Â
Â
The final score of the day would come from a 47-yard pass from Pratley to Sykes to put the Cougars up 37-13. The Cougar defense would continue to work, refusing to give the Regents any other opportunities to score.Â
Â
Â
As the clock wound down, the Cougars would secure the win on Homecoming Saturday with the historical 2012 Concordia University Chicago football team watching from the sidelines as they waited to be inducted into the Hall of Fame later in the evening.
