CHICAGO, ILL. -- In their last road contest of the season, the Concordia University Chicago men's soccer team (3-9-2, 2-6-2) took the field on the Southside of Chicago to take on Illinois Institute of Technology (8-8-0, 3-7-0) where they prevailed victorious 2-1.
Inside the Box
- The Cougars outshot the Scarlet Hawks 19-10.
- Oscar Montejano (Zion, Ill.) led the Cougars with six shots and two goals on the night.
- Nicholas Pasut (New Boston, Mich.) grabbed two saves on the night while Kyle Schultz (Pingree Grove, Ill.) grabbed one.
As the game got underway under the lights of IIT, the Cougars and the Scarlet Hawks battled in a fairly even contest. At about the midway mark of the first half, the Scarlet Hawks finally slipped one past the Cougars defense and took the early lead.
Less than four minutes into the second half, Montejano found his first goal of the match. A long throw-in from the far side of the field found Giovanni Velasquez (Cicero, Ill.) just inside the 18-yard box who in turn found an open Montejano waiting just outside the box for the game-tying shot.
As the offensive pressure continued and the defensive line held firm, another long ball gave the Cougars their second scoring opportunity of the night. Breaking through two Cougars on the cross, the ball got to Montejano's feet, who sent the shot to the lower left side of the net for his second goal of the match.
Despite having the lead for the majority of the second half, the Cougars continued to stay active and alert. Schultz picked up one save while the rest of the Cougar defense held the Scarlet Hawks to four shots compared to the Cougars' 13 second half shots. As the clock wound down the Cougars remained on top and closed the game with the 2-1 lead
Coming back to River Forest for their final two games of the season, the Cougars will look to take on CUW on Saturday at 2:00 PM for their Senior Day celebration. Coverage can be found at cucougars.com/coverage.
