Beers, Stonich Earn All-Tournament Honors

Jacksonville, Ill. -- It was a standout weekend at Illinois College for Concordia University Chicago Women's Volleyball stars Julia Beers (Mishawaka, Ind.) and Katie Stonich (Sadieville, Ky.), with both players earning all-tournament team honors.

The sophomore Stonich was aggressive at the net, finishing the weekend with 48 total kills, tallying double digits in each of the four contests. She led the team in kills in the two matches against Knox College and Blackburn College with 14 and 13 kills, respectively. In each of those matches, she posted an attack percentage of .500.

Defensively, Stonich registered 25 digs over the course of the tournament, including 10 against Blackburn.

The senior Beers was also busy on defense, recording a massive 72 digs in four games. This included 28 against Illinois College on the tournament's first day. She led the team in digs in each of the four contests.

While serving, Beers recorded three aces, including a pair in the team's 3-0 victory over Knox College.

During the final day of the tournament on Saturday, the team captured their second win of the weekend with the victory of Knox College before falling 3-1 at the hands of Monmouth College to close things out.

This is just the beginning for the CUC stars and their team, as they begin preparations for the conference opener at Aurora on Sept. 15.
