Box Score Aurora, Ill. -- Concordia University Chicago Women's Soccer (1-5-1) (1-1-1) battled for 110 minutes to a 0-0 draw on the road Wednesday night against the Aurora University Spartans (0-5-2) (0-2-1).
There weren't many scoring opportunities to speak of for either team during the first 45 minutes of action. Junior goalkeeper Kassie Silenzi (Carpentersville, Ill.) made sure the rare chances the Spartans had did not amount to anything, saving all three shots on goal in the half.
Aurora controlled the ball for much of the second half, applying pressure to a CUC defensive unit that managed to hold its own. Despite the amount of time Aurora held possession, the Spartans managed just three shots the entire second half. Silenzi added two more saves, bringing her to five over the first 90 minutes.
As the second half drew toward close, the Cougars began to create more opportunities as they moved the ball out of their defensive zone at a more consistent pace. Their best scoring chance came on a breakaway with under 10 minutes to play, but freshman Kitana Watson's (Oak Park, Ill.) shot was saved by the Spartans goalkeeper.
Scoring chances were presented for both teams during the 20 extra minutes, but heads up saves by both of the goalkeepers were too much for either offense to overcome. Silenzi continued her outstanding performance in net, ending the night with eight saves and earning her team the draw.
